In other news:

AP credits are stupid and they're fucking up my graduation status and eating my elective slots and I'm going to have to drop like 90% of them for required courses for my double major. Seriously if I'd just taken AP Euro I'd be better off, it's the only one that I actually used towards getting out of anything useful. The rest are going to have to get flushed so I can take MORE ANTHROPOLOGY YAY. (I love Anthropology more than anything AP or IB courses I took in high school, the end.)

Also, I am going to get some of those cartoon valentines I hear other people used to give out in elementary school (I never did because I went to Jewish school) and put them in mailboxes on the DDW floor. If you don't get one it's probably because we're not really friends. Or because I forgot.

Also it was 15 degrees outside this morning WRYYYYYYYYYYY. :C

What is there to say?

A girl I went to high school with died today of natural causes. She wasn't sick and she wasn't in an accident. She had a brain hemorrhage and then four days later she died and it came out of nowhere. I've had a friend my age die before, but it never gets easier to hear someone you know has died, and so suddenly as well.

Really, that's all I have to say.

Cycling to the tune of Miley Cyrus.

Earlier today I wound up sharing the spinning room in the gym with the men's swim team. As is usual when someone starts pumping loud pop music over the speakers, I turned up my headphones. But I couldn't help but notice that they were definitely biking to the sounds of Miley Cyrus. Imagine, if you will, about 10 buff jock-y guys, all bouncing up and down on stationary bikes, while Disney-manufactured teenybop blares.

ALSO, a guide to buying books at NYU:

First, check the campus bookstore. If they don't have it (and unless your professor put in a book list, and he didn't, so they won't), check Barnes and Nobel. If they don't have it, and they probably won't because your professor wants a really specific edition, try Shakespeare and Co. Shakespeare and Co. will probably have it, but if they don't...

Sorry, it probably doesn't exist. Dude, you are shit outta luck.

I had this friend. No, the better phrase would be "I had this classmate." I don't know if he was my friend or not, I'd only known him for that one year, when we landed next to each other in English and History. I hardly knew anything about this guy, just that we'd rib each other about passing papers up and ask what we'd gotten for number three.

Anyway, he died. Not recently - over two years ago now. And it was sad and it was tragic in the way that it is always sad and tragic when a young person dies. And even though I hardly knew him, the way everyone spoke about him afterwards made it clear that we'd lost someone really special. But I think I was just taking their word for it, because I hardly knew him.

This doesn't belittle the tragedy any - we lost a classmate that day, someone that some of us had lost someone really close to us, someone they'd known since elementary school and genuinely loved.

But it wasn't my tragedy to be sad over. I could be sad because it happened, but you could have substituted any number of people into the role of victim and I would have probably felt the same. And I regret this. I regret going through the motions and not really understanding them, and for not getting to know this quasi-friend better when I had the chance.

Live every day like you may never see your friends again. :)
